 I was working with a family recently, and the dad said:
“I’ve tried everything. We’ve taken away his phone, grounded him, offered money, extra privileges… nothing works. He just doesn’t care.”
And the mom added:
“It’s like we’re either constantly threatening consequences or trying to bribe him…
...“Why won’t my teen take initiative?”Â
Why do they:
- not start tasks
- not follow through
- not take responsibility
- not do things unless you’re constantly reminding them
And underneath that frustration… is a deeper fear:
“How will they ever function as an adult if they can’t even get started?” ...
